Margaret Atwood, the Author of the novel Oryx and Crake, depicts a future where violence is present in not only video games but also in daily lives. Crake and his best friend Jimmy spend time afterschool playing games such as Barbarian Stomp where the goal was to stomp or get stomped, Blood and Roses human atrocities against human achievements, and Extinctathon wherein you named extinct species. Not only did these do Crake good, they also did him harm. Through these games Crake was able to make connections to other astute people, but he got them to help in create a new form of life. However the constant violence helped created a God complex, which leads Crake to killing of the current human race which is replaced with the a new one, as in Blood and Roses, “it was easier to remember the Blood stuff… but winning meant you inherited a wasteland”. …show more content…

Unfortunately, this is the thinking that led to millions of casualties and imprisonments. Video games are an ineffective way of communicating feelings, releasing stress, or sublimating anger. In fact, they have the opposite effect; they induce problems and create a vortex of inescapability. Although some assume that videogames can be beneficial to one's health by improving interpersonal skills and preparing them for the future; this is only an assumption.
