Columbine High school, April 20th, 1999. Two high school students under the age of 18, killed 13 and wounded 23 peers. Many believe both were under the influence by violent video games and music; however none of the theories were proven. Did the art of video games lead to this horrifying school shooting? Violent video games do not reflect an individual player’s mental state, there is than a factor that determines the violence within a person.
Playing violent video games does not cause teens to commit criminal acts, such acts like mass school shooting. 90% of kids of play video games, with 85% of them having some kind of violence (Casey “Do”). 71% of americans play video games; 71 mass shooting between 1982 and 2015, 7 in which involved shooters age 18 or younger (“Do” 1). If violent video games did cause teens to commit such harsh acts, would there not be a greater number of school violence? School is an appropriate example to use because it’s a place where majority of kids are at one time. People, especially parents, begin to blame video games since the gaming industry makes millions a day by selling to teens.

Millions and millions of dollars are going towards video games. With such huge numbers, the abashment of video games will be almost impossible. Action and shooter are the two most purchased games in 2014 (“Genre Breakdown”).
