Recommended: Cause and effect of media violence

Violent video games will never cause violence in society for lots of reasons. Violence in video games has been around for a long time and there is still no conclusive that video games cause violence. They have also done studies showing that kids who play violent still have a steady decrease in violent behavior throughout their childhood. Other data shows that other forms of media such as movies have no correlation to violence. The reason for the extremely high crime rates in the United States is the low money spent on crime prevention not video games. Violent video games have never and will never impact violent behavior in humans.

Data suggests that even though there has been a huge increase in violent media recently there has also been a decrease in youth violence. "with the study finding a correlation between falling youth violence and the popularity of violent games." (Vincent, 7). If the violence in youth is falling whilst the amount of violent games is rising how can violent games be causing violence? Violent media has been around for a very long time and has no correlation to violence.

According to nationmaster.com the United States has about 12,996 violent crimes a year and has 2.02 million prisoners. This shows that the United States is spending a much larger sum of their money on crime punishment rather than crime prevention. This means that every time there is a horrific event like a school shooting or terrorist attack, it may have happened because of the high poverty and low education rates in poor areas combined with low crime prevention.
