The Valley Forge Tragedy Many people have talked about Valley Forge and the tragic things that have happened there. I would not like to stay at Valley Forge. In document A (Estimate Of Illness And Deaths at Valley Forge), it states how many died. Also, how many people got sick. There was about 3,989 soldiers who got sick, and 1800 of them who died.
The individuals from the Virginia Colony and the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to the new country for both very similar reasons, the main reason being so that they could have freedom within their colonies and to be free from the church and practice their own religion. The puritans and the pilgrims from the Netherlands but they wanted their children to keep the English traditions. The fishing and hunting conditions were not good in this area. Some colonists traded American Indians corn for beaver fur.
In the time period from 1607 to 1750, the economies of Virginia and Massachusetts began to develop. In Virginia, during the colonial times, it was a tobacco growing colony with a large population of tobacco planters. The spread of the tobacco cultivation increased the demand for workers and led Chesapeake planters to buy large amounts of slaves. They chose not to use indentured servants because African slaves offered more advantages to the owners. This led to a great increase in slave population along with the growth of tobacco planters in Virginia; an upper class of wealthy landowners with control emerged.
After the Civil Rights movement, many historians took different perspectives on history. Up until the 1960’s historians considered the west vacant and unoccupied. Many cultures and peoples had lived in the West before Americans pushed westward. This new generation of historians noticed that in each of the following theories of Andrew Jackson, previous historians could not give an accurate interpretation of Jackson because they neglected to consider the West as occupied. This shift in ideology forced a reexamination of Andrew Jackson.
August 18, 1590 John White returns to Roanoke and finds deserted land. After helping establish the first English settlement on the Island of Roanoke, off the coast of modern day North Carolina, John White reluctantly returned to England for supplies. Delayed by war for three years, he returns in 1590 to find the colonists are gone. It is still not known what happened to them.
Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus writes Are College Worth the Price of Admission? on how some universities should improve their approach to their students, faculty, and the school’s structure. They discussed how schools should be engaging their students. They mention several things that affects the faculty like sabbaticals, tenure, and adjuncts. They also made some statements regarding the school’s view on education.
The Virginia Plan, created by James Madison, proposed that the Articles of Confederation to be “scrapped” or thrown out, and that the people would make a new National Government which has the power to make laws binding upon the states, to raise its own money through taxes, and to regulate trade throughout the states. The mayor, Edmund Randolph, introduced this plan. It was wildly popular throughout the states and was put into effect. It was significant in creating our new government simply because it got rid of the Articles of Confederation. It made it possible for the federal government to not only gain money from tax from the states, but it also impacted the creation of our new government.
In contrast, the rhetorical strategies used by Lisa Byers displays a nice phenomenon about Fraternities, the credibility of this writer was respected due to the interviewing of many of the fraternity members to know why they are doing this. According to the article that shows how frats are trying to help the local community, one of the member says “As a fraternity and an organization on campus it is part of our ideals and founding beliefs that we should be helping the community,” said Allegheny sophomore John Kauffman, a member of Phi Kappa Psi. This proves that not all fraternities are bad for the community and this perspective is showing that some members care about the development and improvement of their university even though many people

I completely agree that Colonial Massachusetts and Colonial Virginia did not have much in common although it is all rooted from their values. Colonial Virginia took a very capitalistic approach towards their settlement. This ambition and greediness caused a lot of agony for both the English settlers of Virginia and African Americans. As stated in the lectures all of the first settlers in Virginia were men looking to get rich and find gold. They came in very underprepared and were very fortunate to have found a specific strain of tobacco.
Why is it important for colleges to have a mission statement? It is important for college universities to have mission statements because it indicates what the college academic policy offers students. Mission statements should provide the organization’s purpose and sense of direction while making the university look attractive within the organization to incoming students. A successful mission statement should be able to covey ethos, pathos and logos in some sort of way which will be used in principles of the mission statements. Students not only need to gain the knowledge for the field that they will be working in, but more importantly they need the knowledge of basic life skills on how to think and react to life experiences. It is important for people to understand that knowledge is power, and knowing that it’s not all about you is one of the best realizations one can have. We are all here to collectively work together for some type of common goal. No one person is more valuable than the other. So the next time we are waiting in line in Walmart, we shouldn’t be cursing about how the cashier is too slow, or that they need to open more lines because we are in a hurry.
There are similarities and differences in the Virginia and Maryland colonies .They both used agriculture, had slave societies, and had representation governments. But they certain crops they planted , how their social structures were and the assemblies in government were different. Agriculture was the main source of money for Virginia and Maryland. Plantations in both colonies had good soil for planting.
