The speech “Art can heal PTSD’s invisible Wounds” spoke by Melissa Walker, she spoke about how art can heal unspoken wounds. Melissa’s grandfather was a war veteran, which inspired her to search for a cure. She persuaded people to speak about their problems through art. The many patients she had dug up their old pains and put it on a mask. She helped thousands come out about their experience in the war in a sculpture.
As I volunteered and continued to read, I began to see the kids I played with differently. I didn’t just see them for their disease or complications, but I saw their heart, and the joy they felt just by doing simple things. I started to imagine their families and wondered what they might be going through, having a child live in a hospital. I kept remembering how confused and misled the Lacks’ family was with the health care system, and even though, I’m not a doctor, I hoped the best for the patient’s well-being and their
This class allows Melinda to get comfortable with expressing her emotions through art. This development eventually leads her to articulating her emotions. Mr. Freeman inspires Melinda through his ways of teaching art and how to express one’s self through

Combining my intense interest of how things work with my fascination of the human body, I was led straight to the brain. The brain intrigued me because it is essentially the control center for everything humans do. AP Psychology introduced me to the functions of the brain in daily human life, but I was still curious as to how the brain works. This developed a strong
I soon became passionate about conducting research to understand the association of mental illness on students. Researching other studies would eventually aid to design other programs that were culturally tailored to specific
This helped in expanding my views about academics as a whole and understand the issues related to teaching and research in higher education. I came to learn about the common problems for all those who want to have a career as a faculty of higher education. I came to know how networking with people in my field of study as well as out of my field is necessary to reach my research goals and how conversing with different people can help us to get new ideas and broaden the sphere of thinking. Interacting with a diverse group of researchers can motivate inter-disciplinary research. I am really inspired by all the speaker presentations in the PFF sessions and at the end of every session I felt I have something new to take with me that will help grow in my future career as faculty of higher education and research.
Personally for me, I didn’t realize how effectively I was able to handle the counseling session. I surprised at the fact that running a counseling session seemed to be second nature to me. This experience validated the fact that the academy secretly prepares you for tasks you never knew you were qualified to
I’ve been generally open to all genres of music, so that didn’t much change that, but I’ve been extremely interested in learning how to understand paintings and the intricacies with sculpture, and I believe that some of the ideas presented have helped me to better understand purpose in both a general context and with an individual piece. My facebook post after Scott Stearman’s lecture talks about this, and a couple of people commented as well and pointed out some of the intricacies that they themselves had
Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.
It allowed me to get out and actual talk to people that I didn’t know to gather research for the paper. The course was fun but also time-consuming when
We were beginning our development unit, and being able to see a topic we studied right in front of my own eyes was mesmerizing. It immediately piqued my interest even more than it already was, and I was able to connect some ideas we learned in class (like the stage of development) to a real life scenario. This gave me an incredible urge to learn more and research more. Sometimes it is hard to connect classwork with the real life, but it was a very exciting experience when I did. Seeing the young children play raised new questions on the topic, new ideas, a new passion for the
It made them even more interesting and enjoyable because I have never had a class quite like this. It also made these experiences a unique experience and a wonderful
Not only was I proud of what I learned in those classes, but I was recognized and rewarded for it as well. My goal could be achieved; my hard work could be rewarded. This realization gave me more confidence in my academics. I now feel driven by the fact what I set my mind to can be achieved when I give it my best effort, and believe in ability more
Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
