Walt Disney

Walt Disney was a very driven man who accomplished much in his lifetime. Though he had numerous setbacks throughout his life, he didn’t let it stop him from chasing his dreams of becoming a producer and animator. Today Walt Disney is an inspiration to us through many of his magical fairy tales, movies, and cartoons.
Walt Disney was born in a small town on the outskirts of Chicago, Illinois, (Selden 2) on December 5, 1901. Elias and Flora Disney, Walt Disney’s parents, along with their five children, (www.justdisney.com) moved to a farm (Ford 6) in Missouri where Walt spent most of his life. He would have to get up at 3:30 each morning to deliver the papers regardless of the weather. (Ford 7) Walt was always a hard worker. The Bible tells us to do everything to the best of your ability. At a young age Walt developed a passion for art and photography. (www.justdisney.com) He had his own unique style. As Walt grew older he began taking more art classes. Soon afterwards, he knew he wanted to become a cartoonist.(Ford 8)
When Walt was 16, (Selden 21) he enlisted for a position as an ambulance driver for the American Red Cross association in France during World War I. (Ford 11) Even during these times, Walt still loved to draw. He used his skills to draw on his friends’ uniforms to make a little money. Walt decided to again start over, hire new help, and find a new studio. Walt came up with a new idea of a mouse whose name was Mortimer. Lillian, Walt’s wife, did not like the name and instead said that he should name the mouse Mickey. Mickey mouse was a huge success! Walt Disney even voiced Mickey himself! He even experimented with sound and color when it first was discovered how to be used in film making. Many of his later cartoons including; Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Treasure Island, Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins, and many more. Walt, later in his life, bought land for the Walt Disney theme park which is popular even today.
