One of the most well known Astrophysicist and Astronomer of the late 20th century, was Carl Sagan, who had been born in Brooklyn, New York on November 9th, 1934. He grew up with his parents, Samuel Sagan, a Russian immigrant, and Rachel Gruber, who was a devout follower of Judaism, and sister, Carol. Carl had credited his mother’s sense of skepticism and his father’s sense of wonder for his widespread success in his study of the sciences. His credentials are quite extensive, as he has published and written more than 600 scientific articles and a few other science based books. One of which, “The Dragons of Eden” had won the Pulitzer Prize.
He explains that people would look at this sky all the time, and that's how the realized something interesting happened, such as the star. He said that Jupiter passed Venus, and when the biggest star and brightest star passed over each other, it was the brightest star in the universe. “In fantasy unreal, the skirmishers begin,” Walt Whitman states in “The Artilleryman’s Vision.” Walt Whitman is describing what happened during the Civil War. He described it like “suffocating smoke,” and, “warning s-s-t of the rifles. In “The Artilleryman’s Vision”, Walt Whitman uses imagery and tone to make it feel like you are living the war. Whitman starts the poem with the narrator in his room with his wife and his infant.
He then goes outside and experiences the stars. That is when he truly understands astronomy and all of its qualities. Moreover, Whitman declares “When i was shown the charts and diagrams to add, divide, and measure. ”(line 3) he had no idea what all of those subjects meant.

In Arthur C. Clarke’s short story, “The Star,” an unnamed character effectively discusses how he coincides science and religion in his daily life. The protagonist is a Jesuit and an astrophysicist on an exploratory spacecraft. The main character has an internal locus of control because of the duality between his job findings and his original religious views. Within the short story, there are various literary devices used. The narrator uses the biblical allusion of “God’s handiwork,” compares the Phoenix Nebula to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the irony of a supernova destroying an entire civilization to save mankind.

As everyone's abilities and interests differ, it is perfectly fine if someone is not interested in each given area. For example, in "When I Heard the Learned Astronomer," Whitman appears to be uninterested in the science behind astronomy and takes on more of a negative attitude towards it. He enjoys focusing on the beauty of the surroundings, especially the stars and space, for which he appears to have a special appreciation. When he writes, "[l]ook'd up in perfect silence at the stars" ("When I Heard the Learned Astronomer," line 8), he is expressing his feelings of awe while gazing at the stars. He may believe that something as majestic as the stars cannot be explained mathematically or scientifically.
After reading "I Hear America Singing" by Walt Whitman, my definition of patriotism has been refined. Instantly, the title grabbed my attention and informed me that this poem would have something to do with patriotism. However, I thought the "singing" would revolve around nature; not the sounds made in specific occupation environments. This gave me a new perspective of how America is in such great condition thanks to its harmonious working class. I realized how Whitman's thorough use of personification truly enhances the poem's overall message and tone.

He self-published the collection “Leaves of Grass” now the landmark of America literature (Biography.com Editors, 2017). Volunteer as a nurse during the civil war to write a collection of the experiences of a war-torn soldier called “Drums Taps” (Biography.com Editors, 2017). He died March 26, 1892, in Camden, New Jersey (Biography.com Editors, 2017). Walter Whitman Jr. was born 31 May 1819 in West Hills, New York (Shrmoop Editorial Team, 2008).
The Enlightenment was a period of time in which there was a rising movement of political and intellectual thought. During the Enlightenment, thinkers encouraged the abandonment of church ideologies and pushed towards the political ideologies that emphasized science, rationalism, and individualism. All thinkers of the Enlightenment rejected teachings from the church and brought up a rise in modern ideas and political ideologies. The idea of “reason” took on many different forms, as it fully progressed throughout the Enlightenment. At first people thought that reason can only make an individual smarter, but later on in the Enlightenment, there were beliefs that reason could bring society together and lead the world to peace.
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman emphasize the importance of living true to yourself and developing complete self-acceptance. To live true to yourself and completely accept who you are, you must understand your identity and your sense of self. In Self-Reliance, Emerson explains that your identity and your sense of self is spiritual. Whitman argues, in Song of Myself, that your identity and sense of self is based on both your soul and your body. While both Emerson and Whitman allow for intimate connections and friendships, Emerson encourages people to have relationships with a select few, whereas Whitman encourages people to connect with everyone and anyone, due to their different views of self.
Here, Kuno explains to his mother his desire to see the world from a more primitive state: he doesn’t want to see it “from the air-ship”—which makes travel across the earth feasible—but to see it as “[his] ancestors did”, reflecting a view of nature and society mirroring Romanticism, or Transcendentalism. The son’s desire to find inspiration through nature, in attaching himself with the idea of an “ancestor” almost recall passages from Thoreau’s Walden: “[e]very morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself” (64). The desire of Kuno’s to see the stars as his ancestors saw them reflects a desire to attain that same “innocence” and cohesion “with Nature
My artworks for the project ‘Ordinary Extraordinary’ are all related to the Native American Spirit Animals, what my spirit animal is and how it relates to me. All six of my final drawings, except for one was in the medium pencil and two of my drawings, involved colour. The two artists I found and decided to do my research essay on, were Kirby Sattler, who paints portraits of Native American people in their traditional regalia and Julie Rhodes, who is an amazing wildlife artist, focusing specifically in the medium pencil. My first artist, Kirby Sattler, focuses mainly on portraits and profiles of Native American people in their traditional clothing, including feathers that represent something in their culture.
He understood things many people older than him didn’t even understand. This is important because it shows how much potential and intelligence he had even at a young age that lead him to be so successful. Throughout his growing of age, he gained more knowledge through more studying and investigating during his off time. He began to grow so intelligent that even the most talented and famous scientist could’ve been corrected by him. “Finally, on November 6, the president of the Royal Astronomical Society of England made a public announcement that the photographic plates had confirmed Einstein‘s prediction.
