Walter was a very generous, well-mannered, and incredible man. With talent that was unbelievable to watch. He never was greedy, he didn’t steal, and he lived in a place and time where you couldn’t be equal with a white person. He is a person that has left our lives but is certainly not forgotten. Walter Payton is one of the greatest football running backs of all time.
Walter was born July 15, 1954 in Columbia, Mississippi. He had one brother named Edward Charles, a sister named Pam, mother Alyne, and father Peter. As a newborn he was called Chubba but as he got older he was Bubba because he got skinny. One problem as a boy for walter was that his father, Peter, would get drunk a lot but the kids thought it was the “fun” side of him until they would lied trying to cover for someone which would result in them all getting spanked. Walter was a shy kid who liked to be alone, yet he liked to prank his sister when he could. One reason Walter Payton became so good at juking was because his sister was always chasing him when they were young. As a boy, Walter was a boy scouts. Even though he was shy, Walter was always quick to play with his brother and friends. In summertime, Walter and the kids would play in the neighborhood but usually got in trouble. Walter Payton could of played for the the NBA or NFL but he chose football. That is how talented Walter Payton was. Even though people say he took steroids to be good but, you can look at high school and college, he never took that and he was still a great player. Walter Payton retired from the NFL in 1987. On Nov 1st, 1999, Walter Payton died of a liver tumor. Walter Payton though join the NFL hall of fame, and got his own award called the Walter Payton award. That award means courage, kindness, and hardship. This is why Walter Payton is the best running back
