Have you ever wondered who was the first person to make affordable, delicious milk chocolate? Milton Hershey, failed many times before he ever saw success. A boy from a small town transformed into a billionaire because of his delicious mouth watering invention. America gave birth to one of the greatest chocolate makers in the world even though he had multiple hardships along his way to success. In 1886 Hershey didn’t start the chocolate dream with chocolate but with caramel. Chocolate was a cuisine from Germany but the problem was that Hershey did not know how to construct chocolate. His goal was to produce chocolate perfect but still affordable for everyone. HersheyArchives.org says “As a young adult at first it seemed that Milton had no talent for business. He failed twice before he finally found success producing caramel candy. This shows that Hershey still tried even though he had zero experience with business and had little to no education. Hershey knowing how to construct caramel was a favorable boost because it helped him go farther but Milton was in debt from his last two shops that did not succeed and he had no money to pay it off. …show more content…

Mr.Hershey got lucky, the money he had been saving plus a loan he got from the local bank meant he was able to produce the caramel the man ordered and pay off his debt. The book Who was Milton Hershey says “The Lancaster caramel company was extremely successful, and by 1894 Milton was considered one of Lancaster's most substantial citizens.”. After the sale Milton was very successful and now Milton was able to spend money for his own pleasure. And because he had enough money to live off of, he sold his company for 1 million dollars. Even though Milton was so successful with caramel, he was still missing something.
