One reason that the war was not justified was because the Americans invaded the Mexicans. President James Polk himself ordered “an efficient military force to take position between the Nueces and Del Norte (B).” Even though the Americans might’ve not been on Mexican ground, they obviously intended to intimidate the Mexicans. Mexicans viewed this as the U.S. Invasion. They thought that the military order was an attack on Mexico and that the Mexicans had the right to protect the border (C). The Mexican government was simply trying to protect it’s citizens, which they obviously have the right to do as the sworn protectors of their people.
