Did the United States Fake the Apollo Missions? Introduction In the late 1900s America was at war. The United States was at war on Earth and in space. The war was called the Cold War and from 1947 – 1991 it was in full affect. The Cold War was a war that was fought with no weapons or soldiers, only hostility. The war was fought between the Soviet Union and the United States and ended when the Soviet Union collapsed. During the Cold War was the Space Race. The Space race was a race to get to space; and even more importantly the moon. It was thought that whoever reached the moon first, would win the war. The Cold War was a time of stress, worry, and distrust. The war started under the presidential term of Harry S. Truman. The war was fought without soldiers and weapons. It was fought with spies and hostility. The two main antagonist where the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR) (us history). The whole world watched in horror as the two biggest superpowers in the world went into a silent, nuclear battle. The world was praying that nukes wouldn’t get fired, because both nations had them. The war was fought under several United States presidents. The Cold War was fought throughout the presidential terms of Harry Truman (1945-1953), Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961), John F. Kennedy (1961-1963), Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969), Richard Nixon (1969-1974), Gerald Ford (1974-1977), James Carter (1977-1981), Ronald Reagan (1981-1989), and George H.W. Bush (1989-1993). Each president took a very different approach on trying to deal with the USSR. The most influential president was John F. Kennedy; he was the one who helped NASA “complete” its tasks. Some say that is was his (John F. Kennedy’s) dream to see the United States beat the USSR in the war, and beat them to space. Sadly President John F.
