In Robert Cormier’s “We All Fall Down” there are many life lessons that are represented. One of them is how extreme hatred can cause you to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. But there are always consequences for your hatfull actions. Extreme hatred has caused people to do horrible things not just in this book but in real life as well. Many people have been killed or greatly hurt by other peoples hateful actions. One example of someone showing extreme hatred in “We All Fall Down” is The Avenger brutally killing Vaughn Masterson. The Avenger graphically killed Vaughn with no remorse. He didn’t choose to go after Buddy, but instead Jane because he hated her so much for dating Buddy. He told her about his plan saying “It’s the only way, Jane. I have to do it.” (Cormier 174.) Extreme hatred is one that is consistently shown within “We All Fall Down.” not just hatred but the consequences of hateful actions. Actions such as these have happened throughout history for many years. One of the worst hateful acts took place in January of 1933 when Hitler and the Nazi army imprisoned, tortured, and killed hundreds of thousands of jews. They didn’t do this for any reason other than they hated them because they felt they were less human than the Germans were. In 1945 the jews were liberated and set free. Adolf Hitler (leader of the Nazi’s) committed suicide on April, 30th 1945. This represents the punishment that comes with extreme hatred. History shows that people who hate others have consequences.
