Web Filters Are Web Filters really Important to Education? Do they really help, do they do what they say they do? Do we really need them? There are many things blocked by the Filters the schools have. There are many educational sites, and sites used for research blocked by these filters, making teaching and learning a little frustrating at times. Of course many of the social networking sites are blocked, such as Facebook, Twitter, and sites like Youtube and blogger. But, In order to make school more relevant to students and enhance their learning experiences; teachers need to be able to incorporate those same social interactions that are successful outside of school into authentic assignments

There are many sites blocked by these filters that do not need to be. I understand why they do this, but they go a little overboard and it really makes it hard sometimes to gather information and research. But does filtering really work? Most filters still do not provide security they say they do. It is easy to get around these filters, most educators do not understand this, these filtering systems provide a false sense of security. Any diligent student can find anything there looking for if it is out there; but at the same time, a student with a legitimate request for information may be unsuccessful. And many great and reliable research sites are blocked along with the undesirable sites. I personally oppose filtering, from my experience. I don’t do anything bad, and I don’t care about anything that is bad. I just hate that a lot of sites I use for educational are blocked, I’m always trying to learn things, like 3d modeling, programming, and a lot of other roles used in game development, and a lot of those resources are blocked. When I’m also doing classwork, and I’m researching, go constantly clicking and going through pages and pages of websites on google, because they are all blocked and a lot of them are valid
