Macbeth was written by, William Shakespeare, in 1606. Macbeth was Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy, and also his bloodiest. This play takes place in 11th century Scotland. The theme of this play was vaulting ambition. It was Macbeth’s ambition that led to his demise. There were many things at work to destroy Macbeth throughout this play. The weird sisters’ prophecies led to the destruction of Macbeth by creating a false sense of paranoia. The audience is first introduced to the weird sisters in Act I. The third sister says, “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” (Act I.iii) She predicts that Macbeth shall be king in the near future. This instills confusion in Macbeth and he wonders how he can be king when there already is a king. This, in turn, leads to Macbeth killing King Duncan.
