Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer, one of the five delegates from Maryland at the Continental Convention was born in 1723 at a retirement estate in Charles County, Maryland. Jenifer 's education was widely unknown, however, nearing adulthood he was granted ownership of a large estate near Annapolis, called Stepney. He held many post up the ladder of the government, mainly as justices for higher and higher courts. Later he became president of Maryland 's council of safety and then the first president of Maryland 's state senate.
Until this day Americans still remember the teeth grinding 1980 Olympics Hockey game or some people called it the Miracle On Ice. During 1980, The Soviets were overall ranked hockey team and said from the beginning to win the Olympics, as they had six of the seven previous years. The U.S. had their chance come up in the final round, a one on one match battling until the end. It was all down to their skill and fight, and push through till the end. Coach Herb Brooks was the one to give the U.S.A. team their fight with his prominent speech at halftime.
The Hawaiian Monk Seal (Neomonachus schauislandi) is a primitive, non-migratory phocid endemic to the islands of Hawaii (National Marine Fisheries Service, 2007). These primarily aquatic pinnipeds spend two-thirds of their lives in the water but require some land, often sandy beaches, to haul-out for reproduction and rest (NMFS, 2007). Monk seals have a polygynous mating structure but precise mating behavior and dominance establishment is unknown because they are aquatic processes not often observed (Jefferson et al., 1993). Females begin giving birth around age five to nine with each female producing a single pup every year (Johanos et al., 1994). Before I start my discussion, I would like to thank Henrietta Lacks for her cells even though they were taken without her consent and also thank the Lacks’ family for their patience in dealing with this issue of not being told about the use of the Henrietta’s cells. Neither Henrietta nor her family got recognition for them. This story tells us how far we have come in this day and age in terms of privacy information and what people can and cannot do because of HIPPA. It was common practice to use people’s information and cells without their consent.
Kennedy’s Appeal to Steel Companies President John F. Kennedy, known for his persuasion and diligence, met for a news conference to speak against the rises in steel prices by 3.5 percent. President Kennedy used tactics such as diction, repetition, statistics and emotional appeals to persuade steel companies to lower their prices. The president begins his speech by setting a strict tone, "In this serious hour in our nation's history", to let steel companies know the hikes in steel prices has become a national problem, furthermore, Kennedy informs the steel companies that the prices affect everyone and in doing so, uses his first strategy, repetition. President Kennedy consistently uses words such as "we" or “us” to convey that even the president of the United States of America is affected by this outrage. The Unusual Message Reading the commencement speech “This is Water”, written and delivered by David Foster Wallace to students and their families at Kenyon College was nothing like what I was expecting it to be. I can imagine the listeners that were present were just as shocked as I was when they finally grasped the message he was presenting to them that day. Normally when someone delivers a commencement speech to students graduating, it's more along the lines of “be all that you can be” or “You can do it” with emphasis on the word “you.” No one really tells you to think of others first at that point in your lives. However, Wallace did just that.
I am going to give you many facts about West Virginia. Some of them may be boring to you but for me they are all interesting. I am doing this because it is one of the end of the year projects. I was chosen this state by a random name picker. At first I was so bored of it, but now that I researched it, it is actually very interesting.
A higher education pushes individuals to think, question and explore new and valuable ideas. An excellent education teaches students how to credibly think and prioritise when learning. David Wallace, who gave the Kenyon commencement speech, quoted, “[Learning how to think] means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience”. In his speech, Wallace is endorsing the idea that a higher education doesn't just throw knowledge at students, but it teaches them how to selectively compose their thoughts and construct a meaning from knowledge. Wallace also makes the point that individuals need to learn to adjust their “natural default setting” to become less self-centered.
George Strait Introduction “I want to reach the point where people hear my name and immediately think of real country music (“George Strait Quotes,” 2018).” George Strait made this happen too, with hard work and persistence. Being turned down by multiple record companies was very hard on Strait. He kept working though, and it paid off.
Purpose: To inform the audience about my trip to South Dakota and why it is my favorite vacation. To inform the audience of the many different places I went and activities that I did while in South Dakota. Thesis: My trip to South Dakota was the most memorable vacation I have been on because of the many marvels the landscape had to offer. I fondly remember diving into history and learning about the historic sites, marveling at the vastness of the Black Hills and Badlands, and gawking in amazement at the beauty and mystery of the caves.
Pontiac gave his “Speech at Detroit” in 1763 to the Ottawa, Potawatomi, and the Huron Indians. He gave this speech to unite these tribes against the white men that have taken their land and killed their men. At this time, the British had taken over Fort Detroit from the French and the British leaders. While the French before them treated them as allies instead of just subjects like the British did. Soon after this exchange of power, the British had taken most of their land from them.
John F. Kennedy was known for his charming, charismatic, and relatable personality which significantly attributed to him winning the presidency in 1960. These admirable characteristics of his were easily seen in his speeches as U.S. senator and as president, in which it was apparent he not only had the charm, but also incorporated his personal values into his administration as a public servent. One speech in particular which highlights this fact is his “City Upon a Hill” speech. John F. Kennedy’s “City Upon a Hill” speech was given on Jan. 9th 1961 as his final speech prior to being sworn in as president, which he delivered to the general court of Massachusetts. In this speech, Kennedy compared the impending challenges of his presidency to the troubles facing the first Puritan settlers of Massachusetts in the 1600's in John Winthrop’s original “city upon a hill” speech.
Self-Regulation and Self-Assessment Practice Reflection Scholarly Paper The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) protects the public’s safety by implementing their quality assurance (QA) program. A key component of the QA program is to have the nurses practice self-regulation. This involves reflecting on their practice and creating a learning plan (CNO, 2023). Therefore, it is vital for nurses to understand what self-regulation means to them.
Thank you, Millicent Fawcett, for giving me the opportunity to speak on behalf of the National Union of Women 's Suffrage Societies which Millicent leads with grace and dignity. Some of you may know me and some of you may not, but I am Clementine Forest one of 3000 women suffragists who has marched here today, the largest march ever occurred, for the cause of women 's suffrage. I am here to represent and express the importance of women receiving the right to vote. Unfortunately, the London weather wasn 't on our side with the presence of heavy rain throughout our march from Hyde Park to Exter Hall, but this reinforces that nothing will stop women from protesting their right to vote. As you know we have been gathered together as one, today on February 9th, 1907, the day in which Parliament is open once again for the coming year.
