A key component of the QA program is to have the nurses practice self-regulation. This involves reflecting on their practice and creating a learning plan (CNO, 2023). Therefore, it is vital for nurses to understand what self-regulation means to them. Self-talk is a behavioral modification. It focuses on a desired thought that leads to a desired behavior (Hatzigeorgiadis et al., 2009). Therefore, if I use self-talk to think positively about my knowledge, skill, and judgement, it will lead to enhancing my self-confidence. Another benefit of using self-talk is that it has a reciprocal relationship with self-confidence and task performance. When using self-talk, it leads to positive task performance, which enhances confidence and vice versa (Hatzigeorgiadis et al., 2009). Overall, this will ultimately lead to a positive impact on patient outcomes as when a nurse has a positive mindset with their task performance it will minimize any potential patient complications from the task. I will utilize the self-talk method over the first two months when practicing on the unit. Another method I will use to increase my confidence is simulation scenarios. Over the six months I will utilize any down time at work to ask co-workers to make up for a patient scenario I may encounter on the unit. Simulation learning is a technique that puts a learner in a patient care scenario to maximize learning. It is known to increase clinical competence, technical skills, and critical thinking (Al Gharibi & Arulappan, 2020). By increasing my competence, skills, and critical thinking I will become more comfortable in situations on the unit, thus leading to an overall increase in confidence within myself. Lastly, I will journal every shift for three months to document my day and have the opportunity to do frequent reflections. Journaling allows individuals to keep track of their successes and monitor their accomplishments (Lundberg, 2008). Therefore, this can be helpful in boosting self-confidence as I can keep track of my success and accomplishments, creating a positive mindset for myself. Expected Outcomes of Learning
