The teacher should make sure that each student is involved in the lesson, ask process questions, open-ended questions, be patient when waiting for answers to these questions, and ultimately never say anything a kid can say. This method is something that I would like to implement in my future classroom. I know that it will take practice and perseverance, but it is something that I know I can
Video Response 3 Addressing a student’s needs plays a vital part in the student’s academic success. Understanding one’s needs requires that a teacher take the steps to understanding the child’s personality traits, interests, abilities, disabilities, and so forth. Students are more likely to grasp the interest of learning a specific subject if they feel that the teacher is kind and understanding, just as Trisha and Brittany’s teachers is. Brittany’s mother mentions that a significant change is notable in Brittany’s self-esteem and grades (Kirk, Gallagher, & Coleman, 2015). Trisha certainly associates her good grades to her relationship with her science teacher and identifies her teacher as helpful (Kirk, Gallagher, & Coleman, 2015).
Because of the diversity that exists among our student population, it is important to offer an education that meets those diverse needs. This includes fostering an appreciation for the unique qualities students bring to the school community. Through working collaboratively in the classroom, students grow both academically and emotionally as they achieve project goals. In order to meet student needs, teachers must be prepared with the latest in professional development strategies to differentiate instruction among all learners. It is the responsibility of the district to provide comprehensive professional development and resources equitably to the teaching
This demonstrates my understanding of effective learning though appropriate instructional strategies because is displays how I implemented a variety of materials and technological resources to support my instructional strategies and reinforce student learning. It also conveys my ability to assess student’s through both formal (activity sheet) and informal (thumbs up) assessment techniques. These techniques help me evaluate the student’s strengths/weaknesses and the effectiveness of my instructional strategies. This particular skill outcome is important to early childhood education because implementing instructional strategies that reach the diversity of our students is going to promote overall student success. We, as early childhood educators, have to use a variety of strategies to discover more about the student’s developmental process and adjust our instruction in a way that will promote students to become self-directed
. In general, Bobby is able to participate in the general education classroom with the accommodations to the curriculum and peer support provided to him. Bobby does need occasional prompting from peers or his teacher to remain on and complete tasks. Bobby will often follow the lead of his classmates during transition, looking at what notebook or book they may be getting out or where they are transitioning to centers. B. Accommodations or adaptations to curriculum, instruction, and/or materials are provided for Bobby in every subject taught while he is in the general education classroom.
For instance Kevin was mainly known for using his rather fascinating words and Max didn’t know any if them therefore, Kevin had to carry a dictionary around with him. With the help of Kevin’s explaining and teaching, Max was able to get into honors classes. Kevin and Max could not be separated and had to stay with each other. Kevin would explain to Max what was being taught and Max was able to understand what was happening in the classroom. Even though Max knew the answers to the questions he just didn’t want to speak in front of his classroom.
I think this is one of the things that sets me apart from my colleagues. I know what its like to be in both classroom scenarios and have personally observed different teachers react to both types of students and got to see firsthand which methods were the most successful. This, I feel, is one of the more important aspects that set me apart from my
One suggestion was to design instruction to conform to their learning styles. Learning styles are patterns of "cognitive, affective, and physiological behaviors that
From all the diverse backgrounds, learning styles and needs in the program, there were many obstacles that I had to overcome to create a lesson that would
Differentiation, with respect to instruction, means tailoring it to meet individual needs of the students. Teachers can differentiate content, process, products, or the learning environment, the use of ongoing assessment and flexible grouping makes this a successful approach to instruction. Teachers differentiate the four classroom elements based on student readiness, interest, or learning profile. (Tomlinson 2000). Differentiated instruction can be known as an organizing framework in teaching and learning which calls for a major restructuring in the classroom and syllabus, if done in the proper way, its benefits will transgress the costs.
Literature Review “Children know how to learn in more ways than we know how to teach them.” —Ronald Edmonds (1991) Each child learns in a different way, therefore if teachers are mainly focused on instructing the majority auditory/visual learners; the students who have different learning styles needs aren’t being met, which results in lack of basic skills moving forward. The idea of one instructional strategy fitting all is creating a void in classrooms; which in turn is failing to help those students struggling the most. Campbell, Helf, and Cooke, (2008) suggests a reason for some students’ ongoing lack of achievements that, “too often, students are instructed indirectly, watching and listening to the teacher or other students with little or no opportunity to actually read” (p. 268).
These can include gender, age and perhaps ability. These classifications are based on fixed attributes meaning learners can 't change their gender or age. School rituals celebrate domination and the rewards and punishments are public. The roles of teachers and students are seen to be clear and given. In contrast, differentiated control is concerned with personal forms of transference where learners are seen to have variable attributes that undergo development and which can be developed by the teachers and school.
The teachers need to understand the instructional designs and how to apply these. In executing this effectively the learning process should expose the utilization of theoretical frameworks, student centered learning, collaboration, culturally fit (diversity), awareness of different learning styles and reflective practices (Tuitt, 2003, p.251- 253). With this we can be sure that every child can learn every child must learn with inclusive pedagogy through accessibility of
Explain why teachers should adopt “ differentiated instruction “ in class” The cornerstone of differentiation is active planning, the teacher plans instruction strategically to meet learners where they are and to offer multiple avenues through which they can acces, understand and apply learning. In differentiating lessons, teachers must take into account not only what they are teaching ( content) but also whom they are teaching (individual that is students). They need to know the varying readiness level , interests and learning profiles of each of their students and the design learning options to fit into these factors. Differentiated instruction means giving students choices about how to learn and how to demonstrate their learning.
For differences that result from cognitive abilities, learning styles, or developmental stages, the differentiation in delivery style and product styles support students’ academic, emotional, and social growth. Strategies that support diversity: • frequently vary instructional technique • develop lessons around students ' interests, needs, and experiences • provide an encouraging, supportive environment • use cooperative learning and peer tutors for students needing remediation • provide study aids • teach content in small sequential steps with frequent checks for comprehension • use individualized materials and individualized instruction whenever possible • use
