This research paper is going to review Abraham Lincoln’s life and accomplishments. The goal is explain to the reader thoroughly about Lincoln’s life. I do this by researching his life including his birth, personal life, education, career, and what he is best known for. He was our 15th president and is best known for signing the Emancipation Proclamation. This act freed all African-American slaves that were in the confederacy. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. His father was a well-known pioneer named Thomas Lincoln, his mom’s name was Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Her name was Sarah Bush Johnston, her husband had also died, and she had 3 children. Her and Abraham became very close and even though her and Thomas didn’t know how to read she encouraged Abraham to read. This time in history, books were rare in the wilderness of Indiana where they lived. Several people who lived where they did would recall how Abraham would walk for many miles just to borrow a book.
In March 1830, Lincoln and his family moved again, they moved to Macon County, Illinois. At this point in time Abraham Lincoln was 22 years old, living out on his own he started to do manual labor. Soon after, Lincoln moved to New Salem, Illinois where he was a postmaster and shopkeeper. While there, he was a storyteller which made him very popular with the locals and earned him social status. This was very wise of Lincoln because, his cabinet was one of his most important possessions during his first term in office. Prior to his inauguration in March of 1860, four states in the south left the union. Early in the morning hours of April 12, 1831 weapons were stationed to guard the harbor. Abraham Lincoln started wielding powers that no other president in history has ever did. He got $2 million dollars from the treasury for war material without the acknowledgement of Congress. Abraham called for 75,000 volunteers into military service without a declaration of war. Lincoln also suspended the writ of habeas corpus, in which arrested and imprisoned suspected Confederate sympathizers without a warrant to do so. Stopping the rebellion would be hard under any
