Throughout history there have been a lot of presidents. Some presidents are more talked about then others because of the changes they have made. Presidents hold a lot of power and they can decide if they want to do good or bad, like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham (or Abe for short) was born February 1 2, 1809 -April 5, 1865 he would have lived longer but was assassinated.
On February 12, 1809 Abe was born in a cabin located at Hardin, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He had an older sister and a younger brother who died in infancy. Due to a land dispute the family was forced to move to Perry, Indiana where they lived in crude shelter, hunted, and farmed on a small and eventually plot Abe's father bought the land. Though Lincoln felt they weren't equal, he believed the Americas founders intended that all men were created with certain rights. He decided to challenge Stephen Douglas a senator, the Supreme Court, and president Buchanan for promoting slavery and declared "a house divided cannot stand". In 1860 the became president a year later the Civil war began. He distributed $2 million dollars from the Treasury for war material; he called for 75,000 volunteers into service without any declaration of war and he arrested and imprisoned suspected confederate sympathizers without a warrant.
