These authors are really good, but few have gotten to the fame and success that John Steinbeck has gotten to. John Steinbeck, born in the 1900s, wrote a lot of classics such as “The Pearl” and “Of Mice and Men.” Even though Steinbeck has created a lot of great stories, the greatest story is his rise to fame. When Steinbeck was six-teen he almost died of pneumonia, luckily he survived. John Steinbeck died December 20, 1968. (Britannica, The Editors Encyclopaedia “John Steinbeck”) Another important aspect about John Steinbeck is his career and rise to fame. His career started at Stanford University, where, even though he was there for six years, he didn’t get a degree. After leaving he started writing books, but before his book got any success he mostly did manual labor to support himself.Steinbeck’s first novels, Cup of gold (1929), The Pastures of Heaven (1932) and To a God Unknown (1933) were not very successful. His first successful novels were Tortilla Flat (1935) followed by In Dubious Battle (1936). He then wrote his most popular novel stories “Of Mice and Men”, “The Pearl” and “The Grapes of Wrath.” Obviously with all of these successful books there will be the want for movie adaptations. In fact John Steinbeck himself wrote the scripts for The Pearl (1948) and The Red Pony (1949). He took writing his novels very seriously.
