In his childhood John Steinbeck would lock him in his room to write poems and stories, when he was older he enrolled at Stanford University for six years but dropped out for good without a degree. His first book that was published was “Cup of Gold” but his first successful book that was published was “Tortilla Flat”. The cause of the Great Depression was a huge stock market crash which cause businesses to loss money and lay off people which made them lose more money that a result of that caused a cycle that eventually lead to the Great Depression. Citizen should have equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work,determination,and initiative. The founding fathers believed that every citizen of the U.S. has the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness no matter who they are. The American Dream was never really achievable because people's definition of it has changed so much depending on times and who it is. During the Great Depression the American Dream was to have a house a car and a white picket fence but now in this decade the dream is fame and fortune and cool,expense, useless things.
