Many schools are considering removing music programs from their students’ education. This could be due to financial difficulties, a lack in the number of available teachers, or just a general lack of knowledge about just how beneficial music education really is. Whatever the reason, removing music education from schools would be a detrimental mistake. Music is crucial to every student’s education, in order to aid their emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
Music education has an abundance of emotional benefits to every student. First of all, students taking music classes have an easier time coping with anxiety. Learning pieces of music or musical instruments gives students a sense of accomplishment, which in turn raise their self-esteem. Music is also a wonderful stress reliever, and stress is becoming more and more prominent in students. Many hospitals and doctors even use musical therapy to relieve emotional distress in patients. Music education helps students cope with anxiety, depression, anger, lack of motivation, restlessness, and the list goes on.

One intellectual benefit of music education, is the proven fact that students in music classes have a wider range of vocabulary and are at a higher reading level than their peers.
