The Roaring 20s was when the economy was at its peak in the United States. Everyone was investing and buying things off credit. The country was very prosperous during that time. The Great Depression came right after that when the stock market crashed and the economy got worse. Cinderella Man is a movie set in that period showing James Braddock, a professional boxer, and his family.
Life in the 1920s and 1950s While some similarities were noticeable between the 1920s and the 1950s, the differences were striking. The 1920s was known as the beginning of modern America. The 1950s was known for its lucrative prosperity and anxiety. Both eras’ were similar in their economics. They differed in politics and society.
The time of the 1920’s and 1950’s both saw changes to the political and social structure following the conclusion of World War 1 and 2, respectively. The United States entered into an era of wealth and prosperity after these wars, and with more money and access to material goods, the public desired more consumer products. Also, social movements after these wars dramatically changed what the role of women are in society. While some argue that these eras are completely different, the 1920’s and 1950’s, separated by three decades, still have many similarities relating to the roles of women and consumerism. The roles of women, especially, dramatically altered after the Second World War.
In America during both the time period of 1840s-1850s and 1910s-1920s, resistance to immigrants happened through social and political movements such as the KKK and nativist movements. However, immigrants were more likely to have restrictions in the 1910s-1920s. Also, during the 1910s-1920s people were more afraid that immigrants would change the democracy and bring new ideas of communism in the country. Therefore, these two time periods are more different than similar.
The 1920s were called “The Roaring Twenties” because many people contributed to the economy. This led to overproduction, and eventually, the stock market crash of 1929. The stock market crash was a big event that led to a lot of bank runs. After the bank runs out, very few people receive all of their money. A tariff was introduced that taxed imported goods, effectively cutting off trade.

The Roaring ‘20s was a decade of play and prosperity. Unemployment was low and Americans were better off financially. After World War I, America wanted to return to normal.
The Roaring Twenties had its ups and downs. During this time period, consumerism skyrocketed and many people felt free. Women were breaking the “standards'', African American singers and their culture were being seen by others, and Prohibition was causing problems. For instance, since people were not allowed to drink or use alcohol, this caused people to use and sell alcohol illegally. Crime rates rose and gangs formed.
Two decades that stand out in American history for their vast differences, interesting similarities, and influential change in society are the 1920s and 1960s. These two decades might be 40 years apart, but they are both periods of unrest and progress. The biggest difference between them in the United States was their stance on international relations. In the 1920s the world had just ended the Great War, now known as WWI. Europe saw a lot of political upheaval and arrests in Europe.

The Roaring Twenties Our country went though many forceful changes during the Great War or World War 1 as it was later called. Many people today are uninformed about the prosperity of our country during World War 1 and the “Roaring Twenties”. The Roaring 20s, the era following World War I, was a time of free-living enjoyment as the money was superfluous and the people were ready to forget the devastation of the war by living exuberantly. Unfortunately, before this time of free-living enjoyment and fun, our country had to go through war and change.
During the Gilded age era, America became more affluent and saw unmatched progress both industrially and technologically. Coming with this was the counter as well that consisted of greed, corruption, and politicians being advantageous of the working class. The decade of the twenties, which is deemed as the roaring 20s was an era that pioneered innovation. It also marked social and political change both positively and negatively. It’s safe to that the roaring 20s is comparable and representative of the gilded age, given that both time periods marked prosperity but social conflict(s); The twenties were the new gilded age.
The 1920s were the first years of the new, modern America, with a growing consumer society and new ideas and rules. America saw many changes throughout this decade, including but not limited to social, economic and political changes. Throughout this time, new values were made with the growth of new forms of entertainment and education. After the Progressive Era, the ideas of political figures changed with a new focus on conservative politics and less labor issues. With the new ability for people to buy other products than basic needs, their money went to new inventions, causing new industries to grow.

America needed to recover and with it youth rebelled against the norms of the older generations.

These developments created new changes and helped shape the ways of life of the American people. Women played a significant example in social changes. From improvements in the education system, to minor developments such as the changes in attire. Another major development was economic production.
