You place your things down and settle until you hear a sound that makes your heart drop. A scream is coming from your child's room; sprinting to the door, your hand tightly grips the knob. Thoughts fly through your head about what could have happened. Did they hurt themself? Fall off their bed while sleeping? Start a fire? You quickly open the door and find that the room is filled with darkness beside the light from a tv screencasting on your child's face. In Amy Paruel's article, Game Theory: The Effects of Video Games on the Brain. She tells the reader, "Still, experts agree gaming has addictive qualities. The human brain is wired to crave instant gratification, fast pace, and unpredictability. All three are satisfied with video games" (Paturel). This shows that video games have an addictive quality to them, and when any human gets addicted to something, they use it more and more. This can end up making them not get enough sleep. When people do not sleep, it has been shown that it can cause people to feel more depressed, suicidal, and anxious. Not only do video games cause serious feelings like that, but they also can hinder social skills. In Violent video games may stop crime by keeping criminals busy playing violent video games by Evan Dashevskt, it is stated that "especially adolescent boys, maybe even adolescent boys who are prone to real violence. And so, if you can make video games fun enough, then kids will stop doing everything else, right? They will stop watching TV, they will stop doing homework, and they will stop going out and creating mayhem on the street" (Dahevskt 1). This quote shows that video games are making adolescents dissociate from the real world and stopping them from important things like school, hobbies, and even seeing other people. Physical health is stressed a lot in the article Game Theory: The Effects of Video Games on the Brain. It says, "' I never saw my real friends. I gained weight, became lazy, and spent nearly all of my time slumped over my computer,' says Rosner, who played up to 18 hours a day, every day, for nearly two years" (Paturel). As discussed earlier in my essay, video games with simulated violence are highly addictive. This can make adolescents sit in the same spot for many hours daily. This can cause weight gain to the point of obesity, increased blood sugar, and unhealthy cholesterol levels. Not getting enough physical activity can cause different heart problems, which no teen should
