Civil War The war between the North and the South, also known as the Civil War, was caused by the division of the North and South. The first battle taking place on April, 12, 2014. The two major causes of the Civil War are the social differences between the North and South, and Slavery. The election of Lincoln and his view on slavery are the biggest reasons for the secession. Compromise wasn’t possible because the North’s viewpoints on slavery and government didn’t prioritize the South. The North had many advantages over the South. For example, the North contributed 97% of the nations weapons, they had more men of fighting age, and the Navy remained in the North. The North had some very limiting disadvantages. Most men didn’t want to fight a war, and weren’t qualified to fight. The South contained most of the war colleges, and had the most qualified leaders. The South had the best strategic advantage. The men in the south were very excited to fight, and were qualified. The South was outnumbered two to one, and industry wasn’t prominent in the South. The North burned Atlanta to the ground and killed many innocent people, and stole many valuable items. This is expected during war because the Generals couldn’t contain every soldier in the army. Another example in the Battle of Kennesaw mountain. Confederate troops tore apart houses to make groundworks, leaving families homeless. Many families abandoned their homes because of the battles.
