The American Civil War, War Between the States, or The War of Northern Aggression as it is called by various peoples, started for a multitude of reasons that are, in ways, less clear today than when the war started. Even though many people today see slavery as the main reason, the American Civil War was not fought over the institution of slavery, rather the self-determination of the southern states forced a divide between people who had grown

Although many say that issues with agriculture and industry caused the war the main factor was slavery, which lead to why the Civil War was

cember 2015 The causes of the Civil War can be examined from countless angles, depending on the historian. Michael F. The Civil War is known as the bloodiest war in American History. Robert E. Lee may have said, “This war is not about slavery.”, but slavery was a major cause.
