In the past during the Salem witch trials people weaponized the fact that courts would kill someone just for being accused. in the crucible by Arthur miller the characters always were dead set on witchcraft. If anyone ever said that you were practicing witchcraft you were integrated almost immediately, sometimes even whipped even with little to no evidence. But in all of this there were characters that were extremely targeted just because someone in power didn’t like them or just because they were jealous , here are some examples of characters that were targeted. In the play, the characters weaponize the witch trials to use against people they’re jealous of or simply for the fact they just don’t like them. Abigail Williams out of jealousy and hatred targeted Elizabeth Proctor,because. She slept with Elizabeth's husband John Proctor but she fell in love and John didn't. He was still in love with his wife and they ended up fixing things. So she wanted to get rid of Elizabeth and she used many methods to try and do so she performed witchcraft to try to kill her but it got interrupted and didn’t end up working. …show more content…

They had an affair and that made Abigail fall in love but John was still together with his wife. So she developed a hatred for John and became jealous of Abigail and wanted revenge for both of them. So she accused John of being a witch and she told everyone in the town that they had an affair at his trial for his character. This led to a chain reaction throughout the town having everyone think he’s a witch and them accusing him of a number of things. “She thinks to dance with me on my wife’s grave and we’ll she might, for I thought of her softly. God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it’s a whores vengeance .”(miller 110) This quote shows that Abigail does want revenge on them both but most of all wants Elizabeth dead over everything, And is jealous of both John and
