Independence is when someone becoming an adult, where they can handle issues by themselves. This person is able to have their own ideas and opinions when they are making decisions. Many people have misunderstood the idea of being independent, they believe that living apart from their parents means they are independent. In the essay, “Invisible Labors: Caring for the Independent Person” by Lynn May Rivas, she states “Independence, after all, is not simply a passive status: it is something people ‘do’”(76). Being independent is not passive, where someone accepts what happens without any response, it should be a time where the person understands their responsibility and they are not influenced by others.

500-word synopsis: Autonomy and relatedness were focused upon in our most recent workshop on the journal article titled The Importance of Supporting Autonomy and Perceived Competence in Facilitating Long-Term Tobacco Abstinence by Williams, Niemiec, Patrick, Ryan, and Deci. The article described a research study they conducted with a little over a thousand tobacco smokers. Using the ideas fostered in Self-Deturmination theory (SDT) to determine the most beneficial method to reduce the unhealthy habit. Interestingly, the participant group contained both individuals who actively wanted to quit smoking and those who did not.
In my mind the most important unanswered question raised during our class meeting would be, “how to decide what to do in a situation like case 5-2 and living with the decision afterwards” case 5-2 regarded the 77 year old Jamaican woman and the dilemma the doctor was in, in terms of discharging her or keeping her and raising the prices for the other patients. During class we discussed what people would do but because I have different ideas on what I would have done. If I had decided to discharge her I would remember it all the time. I would feel so broken inside for doing that. I would neglect a person’s life to accommodate my place of employments financial situation.
Autonomy means that a child can see they are a separate individual. When a child is close to two years old, they can know they have power. This is when they will claim their independence. An example of children who have autonomy when they can say "no". Verbal expression of this defiance shows that a child is answering their independence.
The responsibility of autonomy instills a conscience in man. He asserts that responsibility is a privilege that carries a power over oneself and fate, and the conscience is a dominant instinct (II-2). Nietzsche proceeds by making the claim that autonomous and moral are mutually exclusive. In contrast, Kant believed that autonomy and morality were necessarily linked because he maintained the idea that morality was based on the principle of freedom of will. A sovereign individual with free will must be held accountable for their actions and Kant believed that the morality of an action was to be based on the action’s adherence to the rules.

The culmination of activities on persistence has produced results. I am not saying my classroom is perfect but we have come a long way from the many tears and meltdowns around completing work that we experienced during the beginning of the year. In addition, the character strength of self-control will come with a less rigid structure. Therefore, I will work to provide an environment that is less stressful and promotes self-management of behavior. What Freedom Means To Me All over the United States freedom is celebrated. Everyone can join in and give thanks to the military veterans who serve for our country. According to google freedom is defined as “The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint”, and although this definition is pretty accurate it leaves out quite a bit. Freedom is so much more than just a right it's a way of life.
Freedom means the power or right to act, speak, or think without restraint, and the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. Freedom is the correction to do what he/she wants, live life, and eat what he/she wants. How do we live free? We live free by not judging other people’s freedom rights. Everyone has their own rights.
Students must be given the reasons for alternatives or choices proposed. This would enable them to think and internalize these choices and would also feel like it was their choice to begin with. Children with high self – efficacy will set moderate goals for themselves and persist till they achieve success. They will attribute their failures to lack of effort rather than lack of ability. Students with low self – efficacy would avoid setting a goal altogether for the fear of failure.
