What does NASA mean by being Earth Reliant? NASA says that being Earth Reliant means that we need to keep putting astronauts in into the International Space Station so they can learn what life in deep space is like. With that information we are able to make our chances at surviving the Mission to Mars. NASA states in their “ Journey To Mars” article “Astronauts are learning about what it takes to live and work in space for long periods of time, increasing our understanding of how the body changes in space and how to protect astronaut health.” That is explaining ,with the knowledge that we will have, how we can best prepare ourselves to go to Mars as well as other space missions. The proving ground is the stage where NASA is testing their rockets to see if they will even be able to make it to mars. They are building a rocket right now to and will send it on a three week without any astronauts in it to see if they can even make it the distance that they need to go in order to get to Mars. It says in NASA’s article “The mission will carry the Orion spacecraft (without astronauts) thousands of miles beyond the moon during an approximately three week mission (Watch Mission Animation Video).” They also say in their article that in 2020 they plan to send their astronauts on a similar mission.
