I am extremely honored today to speak on behalf of the veterans of this nation and I would like to begin with a question. I’d like to ask what is one thing all veterans of this country have in common? Immediately several things pop into your mind. It may be that veterans have all known the hardships that are inherent in serving in the military…the long hours, the austere conditions, the continual duty of working every day in a combat zone, in dangerous conditions during a deployment, for months on end, for multiple tours. The separation from family and missing birthdays of your loved ones, absence during the holidays, long spells of not being in contact with your family.
Everything a veteran must do is a sacrifice, from leaving behind their lives, to stepping onto the battlefield. The sacrifice of time is just as important as the bravery shown in war, and oftentimes much more difficult. These sacrifices are what make veterans special. Veterans became veterans because they possessed the honor, bravery, and patriotism that they needed to stand up for their country.
I myself have to think sometimes about what other people might be going through, even though we have freedom over here, there are many wars happening and many people losing their lives. To me, a veteran is a hero in disguise that live among ordinary people and live ordinary lives. Veterans are people who make sure that when we die, we will die in peace on the very soil where they have walked. They dedicate themselves to defend a nation
What Memorial Day Means to me by: Kensington Loving What do you think of when you think,”Memorial Day”. I know almost all the kids of the U.S. think fireworks, ice cream, candy, and a nice day on the lake. But many people are thinking of loved ones that they lost for our freedom.
Veterans day was originally called Armistice day. It got that name at the end of World War One. But the name changed to Veterans day some time after World War Two, to honor veterans from both wars. Every year, we celebrate Veterans day.
There are a lot of important reasons why we should honor our veterans. One of the biggest reasons we should honor our veterans is because they risked their lives to protect ours. In some of the scariest, if not the scariest, situations in the world, thousands of soldiers bravely fought for our freedom. Even though they knew the risks, they still decided to go into the military. To this day, many veterans still face side effects of war.
We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11th to honor the men and women who served and is still serving our wonderful country. We shouldn’t honor a veteran just once a year but everyday because they are protecting us everyday. When we say the pledge in the mornings we should be thinking about our veterans and what they did for us. Many veterans we get to still celebrate with and some were not so lucky and didn’t make it back home to their loved ones.
I have a few people in my family that are veterans. Their service means alot to me. I admire them for their for their bravery and loyalty to their country. They inspire me in many ways such as to be brave even if the situation requires only a small act of bravery, and to speak out against something I know is wrong. To me veterans need to be honored every day for their service.
The definition for veteran is a patriot who shows great courage and bravery and is also a defender of America and its freedom and is a hero to their country. I think that the Veterans should be honored for these three reason: the sacrifice that they went through, the respect they went through, and the freedom that they fought to give us. They Sacrificed a lot of things for our country. Many people gave up time with their family and left their homes. It takes so much time and effort to be in the army or military.
Ninety-eight years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between Germany and the Allied Nations in World War I. One year later, it was celebrated as Armistice Day to honor the cause of world peace. After World War II and the Korean War, it was renamed Veterans Day, dedicated to American veterans from any war. The transition from Armistice Day to Veterans Day seems appropriate, for we would not have peace if we did not have veterans. But the implication that veterans are mere preservers of order is a vast misrepresentation; they do much more for our nation.
Ricky kurihara Veterans day What does freedom mean to you? For me it means being able to live my life without being attacked. Veterans are very brave people that fought for our flag and our freedom. Freedom means being free and being able to do certain things like going to the store to get things that I want and being able to do things outside without a big war.
Veterans day is a very important day in America (it’s not just an excuse to leave work) Veterans Day is when we remember all of the men and women fighting -and have fought- to keep the liberties and freedoms we enjoy every day. We as American's have grown accustomed to this (and many other) wars, we live in a society that has been affected by the wars so much we chose to neglect the fact that people are dying because of it. We choose not to think of this because it might depress us but, it is the truth. Honestly without days like this where we look and see the people it affects almost as much as the victims, the soldiers.
The true meaning of Remembrance day Most people think Remembrance day is is just a celebration that we celebrate in the eleventh month on the eleventh day in the eleventh hour. And that it is a day we have assemblies in our schools and carry poppies with us, but boy are they wrong. Remembrance day means a lot more than that. Remembrance day is truly a day we take out some of our time and appreciate the thousands of soldiers that sacrificed their lives so we could be who we are today. This soldiers risked all they had so we will be able to call our country a free land.
Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War 1, but in 1954, after World War 2 had required the greatest sacrifice of soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces fought in Korea, the 83rd congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938, by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting in its place the word “Veterans”. With the approval of this legislation on June 1,1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all
