What I Learned From The Nutrition Class

Throughout my time in this course, I have learned multiple strategies, tools, and startling statistics surrounding energy, nutrition, and human performance. The lessons I have learned in this course will stretch far beyond the four walls of a classroom and may very well impact the rest of my life. There are things I have learned in this course that I have never even considered there has also been several moments when I realize how integrative this course material is, the topics addressed in this course perfectly integrate aspects of the field of psychology with science. I will specifically address how this course has positively impacted my life and hopefully continue to use the lessons I have learned from this class in my everyday life. I will illustrate my point by briefly elaborating on the two topics that intrigued me the most. The two topics that impacted my life the most is the lesson on obesity and the lesson on nutrition. First, let’s discuss obesity; this topic is a soft spot for me because a lot of my family members are either overweight or obese. While growing up I pretty much thought it was normal to be overweight; anyone who was not overweight was considered skinny to me. According to my weight, I am a minority on both sides of my family. Culture makes up the very foods we eat, that is why nutrition is such fundamental topic because it plays a huge role in most people’s lives. Nutritional trends are all over the place, but it is best to simply be a smart consumer and try to get the recommended daily amount of key nutritional vitamins, mineral, and macronutrients. I always thought of meals as an enjoyable time meant to catch up with your family and my relationship with food is primarily focused on food that I want rather than food that I need. This course has drilled into my head the theory of, what you put in is what you get
