Dietetics And Nutrition At Florida International University: Personal Statement

I would like to express my strong interest in pursuing Ph.D. in Dietetics and Nutrition at Florida International University. I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Shiraz University of Medical Science (SUMS) in Nutrition Sciences. Nowadays, I am teaching dietetics clinical training courses at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, and also I am a dietitian at SUMS. In addition, my previous occupation was a dietitian in Mother & Child Hospital, as a member of bariatric surgery team.
Since seven years ago when I started my education at the university in the field of nutrition science, I have devoted most of my time to study and research regarding nutrition related to chronic diseases and nutritional practices to control or prevent these …show more content…

Consequently, I have decided to continue my education in the Ph.D. degree. However, unfortunately, in my country, Iran, it is impossible; because since I am living in a developing country and also we have been boycotted, I have faced several difficulties regarding economic and technological issues. Moreover, due to financial and political problems which preclude us at Iran from conducting practical and powerful researches, I have always had to be concerned with the budget or supplying laboratory material due to sanctions programs that restrict our access to them. Furthermore, in our country, preventive medicine is not considered as important as medical treatment, so there is little room for investigating and designing useful preventive programs since the priority is medical treatment after onset of disease.
During my graduate study, because of my intense interest and scientific curiosity to do research and the advancement of science as well as helping other people with my knowledge, I have worked with distinctive and a variety of scientific groups. Therefore, I have several experiences in different labs which have improved my laboratory and research skills, and I can combine and use them for applying more practical researches which we can apply their results for community health
