Often times in un-scholarly writing, writers will use Aristotle’s ways or persuasion. He found the origins of persuasion and named them ethos, logos, and pathos. When an author uses ethos, they are trying to establish their credibility. This helps the reader trust what the author is saying. Logos is the appeal to logic.
The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. devastated a large majority of people around the world. His works of nonviolent acts against racism motivated many, including civil rights activist Cesar Chavez, to solve matters without resorting to inhumane behaviors. Inspired by Dr. King Jr.’s work, Chavez and his union of labor workers devoted themselves to helping those in need through peaceful protests. Similar methods are proven to be successful; Mahatma Gandhi, for instance, gained a great deal of supporters because of his pacifism and tranquil methods of boycotting against British domination. Despite brutal and savage methods of persuasion slowly gaining support, Chavez proves that nonviolent actions are superior; he does so by using ethos in order to uphold moral standards, logos (in reference to the past), and pathos to appeal to the emotions of his audience.
Ford uses the persuasive appeal of pathos in Paragraph 16 to appeal to the audience's sense of fear. By saying "These are the people who are falling victims to the propaganda of Fear today.". He said that because people fear change and are feeling victimized by it. Words like "fear" and "falling victims" show that people are afraid of change. Ford's motive is likely that he believes members of the audience do not want to be associated with the fear of change, so they would be optimistic and be on the side of change.

This is because when the picture is viewed you get this sick and panic like symptoms because you are now well aware they you could also being digesting the same thing. The advertisement is trying to eliminate the fact that if we don 't start caring about the planet we could be eating plastic bags stuck in fish and other animals. Another way that pathos is located in the advertisement is when the view begins to think about the species eating the trash.

I see you and I love you.” This is her way of showing her support of an ethical standpoint. Katy is showing an intended sign of respect for the LGBT community.
Ethos has to do with credibility and establishing a good relationship with the audience. This can also be expressed through your tone and confidence of the matter. If someone is more confident through his or her tone, it'll attract the reader to continue reading without questioning the validity of the argument. In my personal statement, I was telling a story that I have told others many times before to a variety of people. My tone remains subtle and informal so that the audience feels like we are having a conversation.
