Italy has been around for over 1,000 years. Although it was never established and recognized until March 17th, 1866, the country was divided up into many different territories before it became recognized as Italy. Italy was also ruled by many different leaders. Throughout time it began to grow and adapt the culture in which we now know today. With all its history, triumphs, and civilization evolution, Italy has developed a unique culture. With its renaissances and revolutions, they contributed a refining of arts, architecture, and the peoples’ entire way of life. The meaning of Culture is the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group. Likewise, the characteristic features of everyday existence shared by people in a place or time (Merriam-webster.com, n.d.). The major characteristics that make up culture are learned behavior, attitudes and values, material objects, idealism, and language. There are two types of learned behaviors that people pick up, that make them apart of their culture. “Overt” behavior is more obvious for people of a religion to adhere to. Even though Italy fought with the Germans against the Allies, the result of the war changed their government dramatically. During the war Italy’s government was ruled by a fascist dictator. Their dictator was named Benito Mussolini. The Allied forces invaded Sicily which was referred to as Operation Husky. This was the downfall of the Italian Fascist ruling (History.com, 2009). Pietro Badoglio took over power after Mussolini was arrested. Once the war had ended Italy had no idea of which type of Government would rule them.
