In Chapter 9 of the book “Major Problems in California History” the authors use the key term “Hollywood” which is known as the “film colony” where movie stars lived and played. The author uses the term “Hollywood” as life in a movie by stating, “The existence of “Hollywood” as a residential community proved that the kind of life depicted on the silver screen could be found in reality.” Also, the author uses the key term “Hollywood” as a glamorous version of the American Dream by stating, “Ordinary people became acquainted with the movie stars’ opulent lifestyle through stories and photographs in fan magazines. Another way the key term “Hollywood” could be considered is as a resort city also named “Hollywood” located in southeastern Florida.
On March 12, 1928, the San Francis Dam (made by William Mulholland) collapsed 12 hours after he and his assistant gave it a safety inspection. The broken dam caused about 450 people to be killed. This was the cause of William Mulholland 's horrible reputation. His career came to an end and he lost everyone 's high respect. Some of the people even wanted him to die because he was the cause of them losing some of their family members.
Several studies have been conducted to characterize the lasting impacts that wildfires have had on water quality. The Rough Fire that occurred in California during the summer of 2015, was an intense fire and one of the largest that the state has had recently. Since the proposed project is to quantify the degree to which the Rough Fire impaired water quality in the affected area, several water quality parameters will be examined. It has been shown that sediment loads, erosion, and nutrient inputs increase after intense wildfires and that the temperature of water may increase and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels may decrease. To understand the degree to which water quality impairment has occurred in the affected Rough Fire area, four water quality
The infamous winds of Santa Ana repeatedly help develop a sky ridden with smoke, but for many on the golden coast this is just a typical day. The winds spiral into flames catching among the wild flowers that flourish on the vast valleys of California. These winds are unstoppable. However, it seems as if many refuse this idea in hopes that the land in california will become untouched by the dry winds if humans decide to build. It seems as if no one realizes that the ash from last year will be buried under tar at first, but soon enough the winds will take over the land and a new layer of ash will settle..
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and the Santa Barbara Cuonty Air Pollution Control district issued Air Quality Warnings due to the smoke from the fire burning in the Refugio Canyon area. People are advised to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. The forecast for the weekend in Southern California puts firefighters on high alert as it is expected to reach triple-digit temperatures until Monday and will heighten the risk for
By cutting down trees, many eco-systems get destroyed and many animals will not survive. I have noticed how this process occurs a lot in Florida. The Florida Everglades once compromised most of the state, and due to human development almost half
The management strategy clearly alters the dominance of a given species in an area. In the un-mowed area invasive species are dominating the native species, because they are allowed to grow uncontrolled. While in the mowed area, invasive spices are controlled and removed. This allows native species to flourish, without hindrance from invasive species. These results are indicated by the comparison of Tables 2 and 3, from analysis of the importance value in each area.
The weight of the Kudzu on plants is enough to stunt growth and even break branches. The accumulation of these effects contribute to the ever decreasing plant diversity in a region that has been overtaken by this highly invasive species. Kudzu is able to outcompete bushes and shrubs; limiting food sources and vital shelter to a number of native fauna. The limitation on plant diversity that Kudzu has caused will eventually limit the animal diversity. The Kudzu problem continues to grow, both literally and figuratively.
Earth, the home to humans, animals, and all of biological diversity, experiences changes every second of every day, and these changes are referred to as biological altercations. Biological altercations, like the Santa Ana winds, are commonly disputed among society due to both the positive and negative outcomes of the altercations. The Santa Ana winds are extremely dry winds that affect Southern California and are known to cause wildfires. Individuals like Joan Didion argue that a Santa Ana brings darkness and danger, whereas other individuals like Linda Thomas argue that it brings beauty and value. Each side of this dispute is discussed in Linda Thomas’ essay “Brush Fire”, and
Fires, Why They Can Help Did you know certain fires can actually help the land significantly? A fair amount of research suggests that this is the case. The solution is something called prescribed fires where basically to prevent catastrophic fires they just burn the stuff right away to get it over with. Furthermore, they can help habitats and people, plus the aforementioned catastrophe prevention and generally helping the entire forest as a whole.
How The Gold Rush Reshaped California Before the gold rush, California was only a territory. ln 1850 gold was found in California. In effect, California’s population exploded. By 1851 California had applied for statehood and became the thirty first state. News traveled fast and far, prospectors came from around the world to try their hand in panning gold.
This article was made at the beginning of 2021, so her statements are up to date. The second article is also contributed to climate change by the author Mark Kreider. This article is called Fighting Every Wildfire
Is there any positives that come out of the ecosystems when invasive are a part of these environments. First of all the definition of an invasive species is that it is a species that does not from the area is found or located in. This means that the plant species originated from somewhere other than where the species is currently located. Most of the bases species plants have been very unique and have originated from Europe in Asia and have migrated over to the United States in North America.
California has one of the most severe wildland fire problems in the world. Population, vegetation, topography, and climate all play key roles in the probability of a wildfire occurring. In other words, it’s not a matter of “if” a wildfire will occur, but it’s a matter of “when.” In California, more and more people are choosing to live in communities near wildlands. These wildlands are composed of highly flammable vegetation which can be explosive.
Invasive species are plants, animals, or pathogens that are non-native in our ecosystem under consideration and they’re introduction causes harm. Strict principles for natural dutifulness are essential and great. All the more should be done to shield our planets and its biodiversity from the attack of species. At the point when non-local species from different biological systems are presented, they can irritate that adjust and convey mischief to the set up plants and creatures, and the entire environment. Nonnative species originate from elsewhere and they are not normal to the biological community they have been acquainted with.
