Etaja Green Professor Stephen Brandon ENG 112 - Composition and Rhetoric 20 March 2017 Richmond Post Civil War The Civil War was a battle fought between the Northern states and the Southern states between eighteen sixty-one and eighteen sixty-five. The was also known as “The Battle Between The States” The war was fought between the states due to differences in opinions on taxes, tariffs, and states rights vs federal rights.
At first the African Americans only served as laborers. They built things like roads and defensive supplies. As a result, they had protested about their duties in the military. By
The Civil War: the bloodiest, most deadly battle of U.S. history. Through hard occurrences, the torn-apart nation fought an enduring war, with more than 600,000 brave soldiers perishing along the way. Beginning in the 1860’s, many states began to secede from the once unified United States of America, to create a new country: the Confederate States of America. Thus, the U.S. separated, due to each sides’ different policies. The secession of the Southern states split the nation, acting as a trigger for the Civil War.
However, most blacks never got to serve in combat units and most were limited to the labor battalions. The Marines wouldn 't let African Americans serve at all. The Navy and Coast Guard did but they gave them the lowest jobs they could. The 9th and 10th Calvary and the 24th and 25th Infantry were the first all-black regiments but they were only used in the US and were not used in combat roles overseas. They were so frustrated because they were good fighters and they felt like they may never get a chance to prove themselves.
African Americans have served proudly in every great American war. Over two hundred thousand African American servicemen fought during the Civil War. In 1866 through an act of congress, legislation was adopted to create six all African American army units. The African Americans can only serve west of the Mississippi River because the attitude of the civil war. They were given the name because their fierce, was nature like the way buffalos fought.
The Civil War is characterized as the bloodiest war in American History. From 1861 to 1865, the North and South fought over several of disagreements and encounters. The Civil War caused hundreds and thousands of men to lose their life, about 620,000 soldiers had died. The Civil War was fought in Pennsylvania, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida. Civil War began because the North wanted to abolish slavery, the South seceded from the Union, and the North overpowered the South.
In the midst of the war, over 179,000 African American soldiers served in the Union’s branches such as the navy, army, and support (Freeman and Jean). Many served as they believed this was a way to repay the Union in setting them free and possibly in the future could grant citizenship to them. Before the enlistment of African American soldiers, many laws prohibited the enlistment of African Americans (Freeman and Elise). This is surprising as many African American soldiers served in previous wars such as the American Revolution. Soon after President Lincoln gave his speech on the Emancipation Proclamation, he allowed many slaves to enlist in the Union military (Freeman and Elise).
April 12, 1961, marked one of the most historical events that have ever occurred in the United States -the Civil War. This war was fought by the Union (Northern states) and the Confederates (Southern states). Several factors contributed to the clash of both sides, such include: trades, tariffs, states’ rights, and the idea of slavery. After four years of fighting, the Southern states lied under complete destruction. On May 9, 1865, the fighting was over -the Union had won the war.

Not only were African American men impacted from the war, but African American women also served to supply and aid in the war.

The mass popularity gained by these novels can be seen dating all the way back to 1950’s with the publishing of George Orwell’s 1984, and through the present day with the publication of various dystopian novels such as Divergent, Maze Runner, and The Hunger Games. The main reason why these dystopian worlds resonate with so many people is because they address present day problems in outlandish but conceivable ways, "whatever its artistic or philosophic qualities, a book about the future can interest us only if its prophecies look as though they might conceivably come true. "(Beauchamp). While The Handmaid 's Tale focus on a variety of issues, such as the mistreatment of women, it also realistically illustrates the mental deterioration that occurs during prolonged periods of isolation in captivity.
The American Civil War temporarily came to an end on 13th May 1865, after the conquest of Virginia which resulted to the surrender of the confederates. In conclusion, The American Civil War (12th April 1861-13th April 1865), was a civil war fought in The United States of America. Some of the factors that instigated the war were the prevalent controversial slavery, protectionism, territorial crisis, state rights, and national elections among others. The Civil war ended lives of many Americans than in any other American war from the frontier time frame throughout the late period of The Vietnam
