The End of Kraft Kraft was caught in the act. Kraft got pulled over for driving erratically, he was drunk driving. He got out of his car right away, beer cans falling out, approaching the policeman’s car. Realizing he was drunk, they did a field sobriety test on Kraft and he failed so he was arrested for driving under the influence. As the other policeman was arresting Kraft, the other one approached his car because they suspected he was hiding something. Once the officer got to Kraft’s car, he found an unconscious body in the front seat with his pants unzipped and genitals exposed. The police knocked on the window to see if he would respond, but there was no movement. When he opened the door, the police officer found red hand marks around the victim's neck with no pulse (BE 3). Originally, Kraft was only charged with one murder with $250,000 of bail. The judge decided to triple that bail and keep him in jail until his trial in Newton. The trial would begin on September 26, 1988, and would last thirteen months to be the most expensive court case in Orange County. The evidence they had against him was unbeatable. They had his fingerprints found on glass pieces from a murder scene, bloodstains, hair, and fiber found at Kraft’s home, and photographs of the victims either in his house or car. Some additional evidence was gas receipts and travel records that showed Kraft was in the area where the bodies were found. Kraft and his defense only had alibis and other suspects that could be the killer. They weren’t saying the victims were not murdered, they were just murdered by one or two other serial killers, William Bonin and Patrick Kearney.
