01 February 2017 The Great Gatsby The 1920s was an age of dramatic social and political change. For the first time ever there was actually more Americans living in cities than they did in farms. Also the nation's total wealth double more during 1920 and 1929, this economic growth took many Americans into a wealthy but “consumer society”. Many people from coast to coast bought the same goods, listen to the same music, danced the same, and even used the same slang. For many first people the 1920s brought more conflict than celebration. The fashion was the most iconic fashions. The two most iconic wardrobes were the cloche hat and the flapper dress. The speakeasies was a hidden establishment for illegally sell alcoholic beverages during prohibition.

The women's fashion reflected on their independence, they got shorter haircuts, higher hemlines, less curvy silhouettes. The men's fashion entered a decade of fashion in which was a modern era. They abandoned highly formal daily attire and began to wear athletic clothing for the first time. It was an era of change but that change wasn't welcome by all. The Great Gatsby had cliché fashion of the 1920s, there was jewels from Tiffany & Co. and for the men's wear, Brooks Brothers. Also suspenders were very popular at the time, and often would pair it with knickers and a white or light blue dress shirt. Bow ties were also a big thing even though it's worn more often than they are today, and still are very popular. One big thing back then was always having a pocket watch, also still a popular
