The Impact of Technological Developments in the 1920s In this day and age, we Canadians have become extremely accustomed to the technology we have surrounding us. Although it may seem normal for things like cars and cellphones to be necessities for some Canadians, a lot of these inventions were created and were just starting to shape our nation less than 100 years ago. Looking back at the 1920s, the economy was booming and so was the development of new technology. Both the economy and technology of the decade worked together in order to power the success of each other. Surely, if the economy was doing well it would benefit the development, research and sales of inventions, and vice-versa. The first car was invented in the 1920’s by Henry Ford, who created assembly lines to mass produce cars in order to make them accessible and affordable to the public(FOOTNOTERN#3). Automobiles were one of the few inventions of this decade that made the world seem smaller, since it made traveling long distances much easier. As a result of the huge success of automobiles, jobs were created in areas that related to automobiles such as: assembly line workers, road construction workers, and traffic guards. Soon enough, provincial departments in charge of highways were given the power to take over main roads to plan and supervise road planning and construction(FOOTNOTERN#2). In a way, the automobile also contributed to the expansion of cities since it allowed for the construction of roads that were able to branch out even further. Although automobiles had very positive benefits for Canadians at the time, they caused problems that still are around today such as: more accidents occurring on the road, pollution, and even quick escapes for criminals!(FOOTNOTERN#3) With their enormous potential and capabilities for the future, automobiles definitely made their mark on Canada and its people in the 1920’s. Automobiles certainly proved themselves back then, and have now become a crucial part of how today’s society
