When Johannes Gutenberg invented the first printing press around 1440, he did so with the purpose of being able to reproduce many copies of the Bible. Little did he know just what an impact his invention would have all around the world. The immediate result was of course, that more people would have access to the stories printed on those pages, but as time went on, other types of stories became printed and the oral storytelling tradition was quickly replaced with the written word. This in turn drove the desire for literacy and more common people learned to read.
