We all remember wanting to go to McDonalds when we were younger just to get that happy meal with the toy inside. When we would only want to eat at a restaurant, because we knew a suprise would be included. “Public health advocates have repeatedly highlighted parallels between food marketing and childhood obesity” (Jackson 489). Unhealthy food marketing occurs mostly on children’s television networks. Scientists have said that children under the age of twelve are not able to understand the lies that are being fed to them through food marketing. This basically means that children twelve and under are not able to understand that some advertising messages may not be telling the whole truth, and that they are just trying to influence you to come eat at their restaurant or buy their product. Parents can do the best they can about keeping their children away from unhealthy food. When kids see food advertisements on TV they don’t care if it is unhealthy, they just care if it tastes good. Companies will also use celebrities or characters to attract children to the food. If children see someone they like or look up to, then they will want to eat the food to. Another thing food companies do is make sure to be extra clear when they add a toy to their kids meals.
