Scarlett O’Hara was a southern belle who lived on a plantation in Georgia called Tara. She wished to marry her neighbor, Ashley Hamilton but he decides to marry his cousin Melanie Hamilton. Scarlett is upset at this news; “I’ll think of it tomorrow, at Tara. I can stand it then. Tomorrow, I’ll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day.” (36) Scarlett slaps Ashley and realizes someone else is in the room, Rhett. The Civil War begins and Charles Hamilton proposes to Scarlett. They get married, he goes to war and dies of measles and soon after, has his baby named Wade. Scarlett becomes more bored and moves Atlanta and likes the city. Scarlett reacts to this by saying “Life’s under no obligation to give us what we expect.”
