Have you ever lost a parent? Well, in the story “Knock, Knock” By Daniel Beaty, he talks about his dad, who used to play a game with him when he was little. When he was growing up, his dad went to jail and he was sad that his dad was gone. In “Polly Sits Tight” By Ethan M. she uses her mother’s shoes because they are poor and they are way too big on her and she thinks she will be embarrassed but when she goes up to pr4esent she gets scared and when she sits down, she realizes nobody said anything so she wasn't embarrassed. It is called knock knock because they are trying to knock the door down. “Knock down doors of racism, knock down doors of opportunities for the lost brilliance of the black men who crowd these cells.” This is a piece from the poem which shows you have to knock down doors to prove something or even achieve something, this also shows knock down doors for greater opportunities for you and maybe your future children. “For despite their absences we are still here, still alive, still breathing, with the power to change the world, one little boy and girl at a time. Caution Polly is in class, but she is nervous and scared because she does not want to get embarrassed, why might she be embarrassed you ask? Well her family is poor and they can’t afford things so she has to wear her mother’s shoes to school, although nobody says anything she has a presentation. She is scared because she doesn't want the other kids to laugh at her, but at the same time she thinks that it's the only option she has because she can’t back down. So Polly walks up and is scared while she is presenting everything is going great. After she is done she sits down and realizes that nobody said anything and now she is happy because it's like something filled her shoes with extra space. Even though her dad told her to sit tight she still went up and she was happy that she did because no she isn't embarrassed. Here is evidence from the text to support my answer “Polly's father was working in a field nearby and sensing what had happened, cupped his hands and called through them:"Sit tight, little girl, sit tight!"” After this Polly didn’t know if she wanted to go up but she did and she was happy she did. “And not one person saw her shoes! They just saw a black girl with beaming face, mouth tightly shut, head held high, go to the board and quietly, but quickly and thoroughly demonstrate the solution of the problem that had baffled them all.” Here it shows that the problem nothing happened and the way they wrote it in exclamation probably
