In the story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, the theme is people often fear differences, and this can lead them to commit shameful acts. To start, the author wrote, “‘Ready ?’ ‘Ready.’ ‘Now?’ ‘Soon.’ ‘Do the scientists really know? Will it happen today, will it ?’ ” The children in this story are anxious, and keep asking questions. Anxiousness is the result of uncomfort and dread. The children are dreading the change that is coming. They might not seem dreadful, and instead excited, but dread and excitement can go hand in hand, and be hard emotions to tell the difference between. They are practically glued to the windows so that they can see the sun. However, later in the story, they deny the change, and they remove Margot from the room because she will not deny it. …show more content…

Their feelings toward the change of the sun being there were at first very positive and full of exhilaration. They then translated into still quite a bit of exhilaration, but also worry. Worry that it won’t be as great as they imagined it. Worry that they will miss it for some reason. Worry and anxiousness have a way of overwhelming the mind, and making people do things that they would regret. Moreover, The story says, “‘All a joke !’ said the boy, and seized her roughly. ‘Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes!’” The other children were upset, because they had waited all of their lives to see this, and they knew that it was going to happen soon. They were getting restless. Their restlessness kept growing bigger. Soon, it was too much for them to handle. When they started talking to Margot, they got agitated, and could not contain themselves. Margot was also different. She needed to see the sun. If she did not see the sun, then who knows what kinds of things she will have to go
