How did the events of the 1960 change American policing? The first major change that was development in 1960 's was an academic establishment. This had a direct impact of how police management and administration looked at the scientific approach to police in today 's world. The 1960’s were also responsible for the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorder (1968).
The 1950’s and the 2000’s are similar in many aspects. During the 1950’s adults wanted to fit their status quo, but teenagers constantly rebelled against it, while now teenagers have created their own status quo to try and fit into. There were many wars and scares during the 1950’s that all had a foreseeable end, while in today’s society we have The War on Terror, a war with no foreseeable end to come. The 1950’s and today’s society have an equal anxiety about war. The War on Terror was at first neglected by our presidents.
The most influential is Pablo Picasso and his paintings. “Les Demoiselles was the precursor of a new style called cubism” (395). Cubism was a new style of modern art. With the spread of technology and finding its’ way into the art realm, it produced a new style art called “Futurism”. Since the Modernism era was about expression away from tradition, this idea was the birth of “expressionism” in art.
Two decades that stand out in American history for their vast differences, interesting similarities, and influential change in society are the 1920s and 1960s. These two decades might be 40 years apart, but they are both periods of unrest and progress. The biggest difference between them in the United States was their stance on international relations. In the 1920s the world had just ended the Great War, now known as WWI. Europe saw a lot of political upheaval and arrests in Europe.
1950’s America was a time a prosperity and conformity. The 1960s and 1970s saw a huge step backwards from the 1950s. The social and societal changes showed that there was a lot wrong with the American society and that there needed to be a change. The African American migration toward the cities in the 1950s, led to an urban crisis.
Equality according to the Webster’s New World Dictionary 4th Edition is defined as “1. Of the same quantity, size, value, etc. 2. Having the same rights, ability, rank, etc.” This was not implemented in America during the 1960s and 1930s. These decades are home to major historical events that are recorded in textbooks.
While the 1920’s and 1950’s have many things in common, there are also a lot of differences. While in the 1920’s America was in isolationism to try and avoid the war, they were also providing more job opportunities for women. While also facing the issue of prohibition that started in 1920. In the duration of the 1950’s America was involved in many world affairs, and caused women to lose or quit their jobs due to veterans coming home and the political trend being a stay - at - home mother. Civil rights movements are also going on during this time period.
There are similarities and differences between the 50s and today’s society the 50s were a bad time to be in for all people. People were discriminated by other people. Whites discriminated the blacks because of their color, blacks didn’t have the same rights as the whites and that isn’t fair. They couldn’t even drink from the same water fountain or even use the same bathroom because of the color. This also includes having problems with war but dodge it because in the article called “The Fifties”:
The budget accommodation sector in the UK has become much more competitive over the past 15 years with more and more players entering the market each year. This forces competitors to look for better ways of communicating brand and product benefits. The total market comprises more than 40,000 rooms in the UK alone. Travelodge has 25% of the market. In order to retain and increase this market share Travelodge is investing heavily in developing its Internet presence to make it easier for customers to find out more about the Travelodge offer and book rooms.
Between the 1950s and 1970s the civil rights surfaced in the United States, therefore fellow Americans believed that the civil rights would provide an economic growth and rising incomes. Americans thought these rights would solve their individual and social needs. Afterwards a black civil rights movement surged and a large number of Americans began to debate towards the subject of social reform which peaked by the 1960s. The book of American History expressed: “In 1954 the Supreme Court issued its historic Brown v.s Board of education decision declaring racially segregated schools unconstitutional.” (Bender. 252)
In the 60’s, marijuana and heroin can be strongly connected to Timothy Leary, a radical Harvard professor, urging the world to try LSD. The 60’s were the heyday of illegal drug usage. The 60’s were a time of discrimination, extreme drug usage and violence. Although, many people today would argue that the 60’s were a safer time of unification.
A defining characteristic of the 1960's political landscape is that of liberalism, which is a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise. President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal was the match that ignited the takeoff of liberal ideals in the 1930s which continued well into the 1960's. Ultimately, the federal policies and court decisions in the 1960's strongly reflected liberal ideals through the Civil Rights policies, the Voting Rights Act, and the Economic Opportunity Act. The first piece of federal policy in the 1060's that strongly reflected liberal ideals was the Civil Rights Act.
The art produced today has been influenced by the rebellious founders and their development of the impressionism movement. Even though the first exhibition of the impressionism movement was not as successful as they hoped, it was the starting point for a new way of thinking about and creating
Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution Charles R. Darwin was a naturalist and a geologist. Charles stated that all organisms/species descended overtime from a lesser/inferior though common ancestor. Charles called this theory natural selection. Charles published his book “On the Origin of Species” in 1859, overcoming scientific rejection of transmutation of species. By the 1870s people of the scientific community accepted evolution.
Film is a story of people and a story made by the people. Since society is a world of community where people creates atmospheres and interact with one another, through films we can look into the mirror of the society at that time. The French society from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s was the time when the postwar modernization for France had begun. During this time period there were many values that the society reflected and various cultures that were embedded into the people’s lives.
