Laws were even made based on religion. The churches were so powerful they would even go to war with people of different religions. Peasants were expected to follow the “Great Chain of Being” which meant they were expected to show humble deference to their betters(). The second reason that the modern world highlights the limitations of peasants is they were constantly threatened by scarcity and famine ().
The societies of Tokugawa Japan (c.1603-1867C.E.) and medieval Europe (c.1000-1500C.E.) had two things in common; a feudal system. A feudal system is something that features hierarchies or social structures. The feudal system normally starts with a religion, which is at the very top of the social pyramid, then it’s the King or monarch for Europe and the shogun for Japan, then there are the nobles for Europe and the daimyos for Japan. As we go down the pyramid there are the warriors, like the knight in Europe and the samurai in Japan, then there are the peasants. The peasants were included in both eras and are at the lowest part of the pyramid.
In the beginning, during the darkness and before the world had taken its true form there was two Gods who ruled before time. Tepeu the Maker who had the form of man and Gucumatz the Feathered Spirt who had taken the form of a serpent with bright vibrant wings. Although the void around them was dark, these two gods glistened with bright vibrant colours that stood out above all. These two gods formed an alliance and created the world. Whatever they imagined took the shape of a solid form.
These relationships were called feudalism (Doc. 1). Feudalism and the Church greatly contributed to the social, economic, and political life in Europe in the Middle Ages. “Feudalism was a political, economic, and social system which included kings, nobles, knights, and serfs (Doc. 1).” Every position or status had a job that benefitted another ranking (Doc. 1). For example, a king grants land to nobles, nobles granted land to knights, and knights grant land to serfs (Doc. 1).
Deep inside the earth, Aba, the great spirit created man and grasshoppers. After the earth was created, men and grasshoppers came to the earth’s surface through a passageway that came deep into the earth’s interior and to the top of Nane Chaha. (Bushnell, 1910). In the second emergence myth, the Nane Chacha is created first with a passageway leading from the summit to the bottom of the earth. After everything was created on earth, including trees, plants and lakes, the Choctaw emerged through the passageway and were scattered all over the place.
Source B, "Chart of Medieval European feudalism," and source c, "Map of the spread of Islam" are both connected to the power of political. After reading the details in Source B, it is clear that there was a social pyramid to show who was on the top and bottom, the money range of all the people, and what they did. The head of the social pyramid was the king, the king had all the power, he has all the money, and makes the rules. The next person was the lords and they were military aids and they were loyal. The second to last person on the pyramid was the knights.
It is fascinating how the human mind can come up with many ideas of the birth of the world. In the story of The World on a Turtle’s Back there is mention that in the beginning there was no world, or land; but there was a great ocean and above it a great void of air. That void of air was the Sky World where the story commences. Then there is The Four Creations and The Tohono O'odham Creation Story. All three of these have their similarities and the differences on how the world was built.
Afterwards, the Creating Power brought out all the animals and plants from his pipe bag and used the earth to form humans. He brought all the creatures and humans to life and assigned them to their tribes. After he finished with his creation of the current world, the Creating Power explained to the humans that this is not the first world he created, but the third. Further, he explained that the people in the first world misbehaved inappropriately, so he decided to scorch the world.
In the Middle Ages, the power of people impacted the society, because of the Feudal System. In other words, the rankings of people. There were four groups. The Kings and Queens were at the top, then the nobles, the knights, and last peasants and serfs(Doc. 1). Serfs and peasants had very little land given and they even had to provide food that they farmed for the knights and nobles.
As written in bible, animals were created on the sixth day before humans were created on the seventh day. In the pragmatic examination and observation of scientists, there were dinosaurs long before humans appeared. Bones, habitats ,etc were all realistic evidences for the theory of dinosaurs. He also raised the point of Pangaea. Humans were all the same, however, after the breaking up of the continents, evolution happened and some people had darker skin.
The second day God separated water into the sea and the sky. The third day God created land and plants. On the fourth day God created the sun and moon, along with the stars. On the fifth day, the Lord created fish and birds. On the sixth day, God created animals and humans.
The Great Chain of Being was a religious concept that had many different components. It stressed the fact that everything in the universe had a preordained place in the Chain, which showed the order of progression that all things were a part of (Melani). The more spiritual aspects something had, the higher up it was, and those with more matter and less spirit were lower on the chain (Melani). At the bottom of the chain were the elements, then came plants, followed by animals, then humans, then angels, and at the top was God (Melani). Within each of these categories there were subcategories (Melani).

In the Book of Genesis from the Bible God created the human being: The lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and the man became the living being. (2; 7) Similarly in The Magician Nephew, Aslan the Lion is compared to the God-like being.
Long before the Renaissance, government was based on feudalism, the idea of dividing society based on class. People earned a set wage for their class’ jobs. Children that were born into a family were the same class as their family. Also, thinking was deeply religious and even art and sculpture all were based on religious figures. However, humanists quashed this idea.
