There are many opinions on what could be important to the history of the United States. Many people most likely do not have the same stance as other people may have. There are some people who may agree that the atomic bomb was the most important part of United States history. This is not the only thing that can be important to the history of the United States, but is a very important turnpoint. The Atomic Bomb was very important in the history of the United States because they saved lives, tried to get Japan to surrender, and it helped to change society.

Even though they have killed millions of people, millions more would have been killed if they were not dropped. There was an estimated number between 250,000 and 1 million American lives that were lost, but there were a larger number for the Japanese also due to an invasion. The atomic bomb had its good and bad things about it. It was learned that German scientists had been able to split the uranium atom and it was able to release enormous amounts of energy. After German scientists had split the uranium atom and found out it could release extremely large amounts of energy, they had theories that would work to make an atomic bomb. Albert Einstein had co signed a letter to president Franklin D Roosevelt about the possibility for a nuclear bomb to be made. Some may argue that the atomic bomb did not help to save lives at all, but president Truman truly did believe that this statement was true. While this statement could have been true, millions of people have died, and many more people left injured because of these extremely powerful nuclear weapons. On the date August 6th, 1945, the United States had dropped their first bomb on Japan, in Hiroshima. The dropping of this bomb was considered to be known as the “Little Boy'' out of the two bombs. The center of the bomb was 5,400 degrees fahrenheit. With the dropping of this bomb, it had killed 66,000 people and injured 69,000 people. Three days later, on August 9th, 1945, the United States dropped another bomb on Japan, in Nagasaki. This bomb dropping was considered to be known as “Fat Man.” When this bomb was dropped, it immediately killed 70,000 people in Japan. If neither of these bombs were dropped on Japan, many more people would have been killed due to the Battle of Okinawa. It is not possible to know the exact number of people that were killed in the Battle of Okinawa, but there was an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 Okinawa civilians who were killed
