This quote once again brings up the point of white writers stereotyping blacks for the amusement of a specific audience, who are mostly white individuals. Continuing, Mateeka also goes on to discuss how in some cases white writers make more money off of using black characters in a novel than a black writer who uses their own race in a novel. The white writers would go about stereotyping the black characters by placing them in a lower light than that of a white character. This article ties in with the previous articles by also bringing up the point of whit writers not being able to effectively write when using a black character. A great quote that I took away from the article was, “Black stories are best told by black writers — this needs to be said. Whites already dominate nearly every aspect of South African cultural life, so for them to be putting words into the mouths of black characters seems like an act of arrogance”.
