STUDENT PROFILE: Name: Who, Cyndy Lou Age: 9 years Grade: 4th Reading Level: 6th grade level Interests: Animals (especially horses), fantasy & adventure, art (especially drawing), reading and history Cyndy is an advanced 4th grader who is exceptionally creative and has a passion for learning. Cyndy excels in all subjects, but especially reading, writing and art. Cyndy is a student who especially thrives when offered a new challenge and is very self-motivated. I would ask her to include in her story this characters life shortly before, during and shortly after the story written in the book and I would also encourage her to include her own original drawings of events she is writing about in her story. I would guide Cyndy by giving her guidelines such as, she would need to pick one of the primary characters in the book, she should consider things from the book about this character (such as personality traits) when developing her story, and she should have fun with it. I think this activity would help Cyndy to think critically about the events that took place in the book to help develop her own story about one of the characters. I think this activity would be a perfect fit for Cyndy because it would allow her to incorporate many of her favorite things and things she is good at. Telling a story which includes this characters life prior to the book with add a historical (although fictional) element, since history is something Cyndy enjoys this aspect should interest her. Cyndy also enjoys writing, so giving her the opportunity to write her own story should interest her. Giving her the basis of another story should help her to develop her ideas more easily, as writing a story could be a challenge for a 4th grader. Also encouraging her to include her own original drawing in her story should help to get her excited about this project, since Cyndy loves to draw, and should also aid in her creative development of her
