F. Scott Fitzgerald Francis Scott Fitzgerald was an American best-selling author in the early to mid 1900s. He is best known for his book, The Great Gatsby about a gangster, and the widely known “American dream” published in 1925. Fitzgerald was a man who loved wealth and luxuries, but he struggled with life and was not always smart when making decisions.
F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1898 in St. Paul, Minnesota. His mother was the daughter of a wealthy businessman in St. Paul and his father was a furniture manufacturer. Growing up, Fitzgerald moved around a lot, from his home town, to places like Buffalo, New York, Syracuse, New York, and back to St. Paul. As a child, Fitzgerald loved literature, but his mother did not support his dream of becoming an author; she wanted him to become a businessman, like her wealthy father (Adams). …show more content…

Then, in 1913, Fitzgerald enrolled at Princeton University with the hopes of becoming a college football star. However, he did not make the team. Fitzgerald then started writing for the school, in magazines, books, and lyrics for musical productions. Throughout his college career, he met fellow students who became important people in the literary world, such as Edmund Wilson, who later was an important critic, and John Peale Bishop (a well known poet). While growing up, Fitzgerald loved reading books from authors such as George Gordon, Lord Byron, and Edgar Allen Poe. All of these authors had a great impact on Fitzgerald’s work
